We renovated and staged a neglected flat in one month, resolving an insurance claim, repairing key features and preparing it for sale, which achieved offers above asking.
The Challenge
Our client, a 75-year-old gentleman living alone in rural Aberdeenshire, was preparing to leave the home he had lived in for decades. With declining health and memory, his family wanted him to be closer to support in Glasgow. The move involved a large rural property with multiple outbuildings, extensive collections and the emotional weight of decades of belongings.
The family wanted the process to be handled thoughtfully with care, discretion and complete management from start to finish.
Our Role
We were asked to oversee every element of the move from decluttering and organising to removals, storage and full unpacking in both temporary and final homes. The goal was to make the transition effortless for both our client and his family, allowing them to focus on the emotional aspects while we took care of every practical detail.
Our Approach:Turning Complexity into Calm
The scale of the project required a clear and efficient system. We introduced a colour-coded plan to track the destination of each item, whether it was moving to the new home, going to auction, being donated or passed on to family.
Working closely with both the client and his family, we helped to identify the pieces that truly mattered. By understanding how he lived day to day, we were able to curate what would work beautifully in a smaller space without losing the sense of home.
Our Team
- Coordinated specialist and general auction sales for valuable items
- Managed donation logistics to ensure unwanted pieces were put to good use
- Oversaw removal and storage partners, maintaining continuity and care throughout
- Fully unpacked and organised the temporary West End flat so it was ready to live in from the first night
When the time came for the final move to a three-bedroom Southside flat, we applied the same attention to detail. Our understanding of how he lived in his previous home meant we could unpack with empathy and intention, placing items thoughtfully and arranging wardrobes, cupboards and drawers in a way that felt instantly familiar and entirely his.
Aberdeenshire
The Outcome
What began as a daunting and emotional task became a calm, carefully managed transition. The client moved from a sprawling country home to a welcoming and organised city flat that felt like home from day one.
Every stage was handled with quiet precision and respect. Treasured items were cared for, the new space was functional and inviting and the family could see the continuity of his life reflected in his new surroundings.
Why it Matters
This project captures what we do best, blending empathy with meticulous planning. Downsizing later in life can be emotional and overwhelming but with the right support it can also be a positive new beginning.
Our strength lies in understanding how people live and translating that understanding into a new environment that feels immediately comfortable, familiar and beautifully ordered.
From a lifetime of belongings to a new beginning, every detail considered.
